HUNGRY WOODWORKER

Inspired by the whimsy and joy that my children find in unexpected places and objects, I started Hungry Woodworker to try to capture those elusive feelings in wood. I use scraps from prime Minnesota hardwoods (black walnut, red oak, cherry) to create items that invite pause and playfulness, that encourage you to unveil your creativity. Trees can have such long and interconnected lives. My work begins with reverence for those lives—the wood I use is sustainably harvested with an eye toward preserving the forests from which it comes. The pieces I make—from jewelry displays to carved boards to toys and other gifts—are just one chapter in a tree’s journey. Once in your hands, you write the next chapter. My hope is that it is full of yet-to-be discovered joy and delight.
